Spreading a Little Christmas Cheer

Spreading a Little Christmas Cheer

Posted: Sun, 16 Feb 2014 12:00

As the specialists at protecting historic venues, EFS were delighted to be re-awarded the contracts for three of Britain’s largest historic Christmas markets, at Ludlow, Bury St Edmunds and Lincoln. EFS offer a bespoke solution to a wide variety of unique historic venues and events with their range of temporary flooring. For each of these Christmas markets we were asked provide protective flooring and walkways for both inside and outside of marquees. Our products also offered protection for the grounds at each of these wonderful sites - whilst also providing safe walkways throughout each of these unique venues. For the build up of the marquees and general access areas, we supplied and installed both our Hex Road and Temp-A-Path® at Ludlow. For the stallholders, entertainers and visitors at Bury St Edmunds and Lincoln, we supplied and installed our Temp-A-Path® product to provide safe and level walkways. The annual Medieval Christmas Fayre in Ludlow is described as the best medieval show in the land with stalls selling seasonal gifts with a distinct medieval flavour- set within the glorious grounds of the medieval Ludlow Castle it is vital that we protect the grounds. Lincoln provides a different set of problems with our products protecting the grass area within this magnificent castle as well as providing safe walkways within numerous marquees, for the enormous footfall undertaken. Finally the site at Bury St Edmunds provides the ultimate logistical issues as our products have to be “hand balled” across the main road into the grounds and installed overnight so as not to disrupt the traffic. Removing our stock is just as challenging and again has to be completed prior to the start of the morning rush hour. Jeremy Simpson – Business Development Manager of EFS said, “It was fantastic to once again supply these iconic winter events with our products, this is the third year since our start up and the loyalty shown to us by each of these events has allowed EFS to develop and grow.” He added “we have now secured on-going supply for these events and are proud that our bespoke approach offers the ideal solution for these wonderful sites.”

LAMMA 2014

LAMMA 2014

Posted: Sun, 09 Feb 2014 00:49

LAMMA – the UK’s leading farm machinery, equipment and services show relocated this year from Newark to the Peterborough Arena and the East of England Showground complex.  Having outgrown its original Newark base the Peterborough complex was selected as its new host from January 2014. The prestigious business exhibition event – which showcases all the latest agricultural equipment and services – attracts over 45,000 farmers and suppliers from across Europe. LAMMA was established in 1982 by a small group of local agricultural equipment manufacturers from across Lincolnshire. The first event was held at the Lincolnshire Showground, with some 50 exhibitors displaying their products at the show.  The current event now attracts over 950 stands covering all aspects of the agricultural industry. As the official protective flooring supplier, EFS were asked to provide their complete range of flooring solutions for the show site as a whole and for 70 individual stands.  The torrential rain both before and during the event meant the temporary flooring was vital to provide access to the site and stands during build up as well as encouraging visitors to get around the show site. EFS staff installed 2,500m² of their Hex Road to provide pedestrian walkways and road ways as well as an additional 400m² on the exhibitor stands as general hard standing. Additionally 1,800m² of the Temp-A-Path was supplied to individual stands for use as ground protection and to provide safe flooring and access to the exhibitors.  As suppliers of a wide range of decorative carpets, EFS were also asked to supply and fit carpets for 43 show indoor show stands in a total of 11 different colours of their Podium Flat Range . Jeremy Simpson, Business Development Manager of EFS commented – “Previous LAMMA shows have been held with a mixture of light rain and heavy snow, but this year’s winter rain provided the hardest challenge yet.  Even with several detailed pre site surveys and exhibitor requests we were adjusting requirements and responding to exhibitors throughout the show set up.” He added, “I was delighted that our products and in particular our recent investment in new stock allowed us to provide a comprehensive package of solutions.”

Shambala Festival 2013

Shambala Festival 2013

Posted: Tue, 03 Sep 2013 16:29

We were appointed by Kambe Events for the third year in succession to provide and install temporary flooring for their festival site and camping areas at Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire. The annual Shambala takes place for 4 days over the August Bank Holiday weekend and has been described by The Independent as "In a nutshell- energetic, playful, bonkers, theatrical, green”.  Over the past 5 years the festival has grown by over one third to some 15,000 visitors and with this year’s event selling completely out well in advance of the dates, it was apparent that in 2013 it would be bigger than ever and as such additional flooring would be required. For general vehicle access both to and around the site we installed 1060m² of Hex Road , this was also used to create a hard standing Bus Park within the grounds of the hall. For the toilets and showers facilities we installed 500m² of Temp-A-Path® in 6 separate locations around the site. Additionally we added a further parking area of 3m by 150m. Jeremy Simpson – Business Development Manager for EFS commented, “The Shambala Festival was one of the first jobs that EFS worked on, it’s fantastic that Kambe Events had faith in us and we were obviously delighted to be appointed as suppliers for the third year. The festival has grown over the years and both of our products offer the flexibility required by organisers” Shambala started well over a decade ago as a motley collection of dreamers, thinkers, artists, radicals and romanticists who decided to get together under the stars over a summer weekend. Their aim -  “to make a place to party, free our minds, lose our hearts, learn, discuss and be inspired and see what is achievable as a community.” Shambala is a space to play, to reinvent, revitalise and then to return to the world fuelled-up on the beauty of being alive. It’s a playground, a realm for wild experimentation and alternative education where unforgettable life skills are shared, learned and put to use.

The organisers of the Ironman UK event in Bolton– now in its ninth year contacted EFS when they need to provided a safe and secure transfer area from the swimming to cycling stages.  We recommended our Temp-A-Path® product as the most suitable product for this critical element of the event.  Following a 2.4 mile open water swim the athletes leave the lake and transfer to their bikes for a 112 mile cycle followed by a full marathon!  So it was vital that we made the transition area safe under foot when covered in water with athletes “sprinting” over it. Over 200m² of Temp-A-Path®  was installed by the team to create a safe and secure under foot surface from the lakeside to the transition area.  This extreme sporting event attracted over 1,600 athletes from around the globe.  British athletes dominated the competition, for the men it was defending champion Dan Halksworth who took the honours whilst in the women’s Lucy Gossage won her first event. Jeremy Simpson – Business Development Manager of EFS commented “with such a demanding high profile athletic event, we knew that it was vital for our product to stand up to the critical demands of the terrain and weather conditions.  We were delighted to be involved and to see great performances from these talented athletes”.

Silverstone Grand Prix 2013

Silverstone Grand Prix 2013

Following the previous year’s torrential downpours at this iconic global event, we were asked to provide our Temp-A-Path® to protect the all important sales and merchandising areas within the historic Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit. Working on behalf of Roder Europe we supplied and installed 500m² of green Temp-A-Path® to blend in, protect the grounds and provide a firm footing for the thousands of spectators attending over the 4 days.  The marquee based trade stands attract high footfall and so it was critical for us to provide a safe platform for customers and staff alike.  Our product was installed as pathways in front of the many sales stands. Thankfully the heavy rain from the previous year’s British Grand Prix didn’t re-occur but Temp-A-Path® protected the grass area and was again the ideal solution.

EFS Develop Additional Retail Space For Go Outdoors

EFS Develop Additional Retail Space For Go Outdoors

Posted: Thu, 04 Jul 2013 21:13

Go Outdoors, the UK’s biggest outdoor stores asked EFS to help them to create additional sales areas at one of their largest stores in Cardiff. With retail space commanding an absolute premium in rents, making the best use of every available area inside and outside of the store is vital for additional profitability. Working with the B38 group, a nationwide property and facilities management company, we were asked to replace an old unsafe area of wooden flooring covered in filthy Astroturf. This old and very dangerous area had previously been condemned as totally unsafe causing a number of trips and falls to customers, additionally due to birds, nature and the elements the visual imagery was poor. Following a number of site visits, meetings and discussions with B38 and Go Outdoors we recommended our Temp-A-Path® product as the best solution. It provided the green colour of the previous Astroturf; it also provides an ideal non slip washable surface whilst also being hard wearing in all elements of the weather. We commissioned new bespoke stock in green from a UK manufacturer; in total over 1,300m² was delivered to the Cardiff store. During installation it was apparent that due to the site not being a uniform area the Temp-A-Path® would need to be cut to shape prior to laying in situe, in addition due to the possibilities of heat expansion between the joints, the tiles would also need to be firmly fixed with screws into the concrete base. This we felt would provide a safe working sales area for the tents to be securely fastened without blowing away in high winds and lifting the flooring. Finally we finished the edges of the new sales area with 4 tonnes of pea gravel for an aesthetically pleasing finish. Jeremy Simpson – Business Development Manager of EFS said, “This new business opportunity allowed us to plan, manufacture and install Temp-A-Path® within in a new arena for us. The overall requirements were complex but we managed to overcome the difficulties as they arose.” He added “even though there were some issues with the expansion of the product over time, we managed to provide a solution and then we were able to develop a solution with the assistance of a local university in Leicester. This will allow us to build upon the success of the current Temp-A-Path product with future manufacture.”

Big Bash 2013 at RAF Brize Norton

During the year we receive numerous requests for assistance at charity events around the UK. This year we supported CSE Forces Entertainment who put on shows for British Forces personnel around the world. “Big Bash 2013” in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust at RAF Brize Norton was our selected event. For this exciting event we donated 500m² Of Temp-A-Path® to provide temporary walkways and hard standing areas. With a sell-out crowd of over twelve hundred Airmen and Airwomen together with their families, the day went off fantastically raising around £7,800. Completely prepared, our military partners ay Brize Norton were extremely grateful for the support and helped us transport the stock to and from the event – then making use of their own on site staff from the base they were able to install and uplift the flooring. They managed to put the flooring to excellent use making the event look that extra bit special as well as protecting the grass area One of the organisers for this year’s event commented “We're really chuffed that the charity will be able to use the money towards their really important work with Cystic Fibrosis sufferers like our little girls. Their daily fight to try and stay well is worth every ounce of the effort it took us to put the event on… thank you for contributing so much towards making it a success! We all really appreciate what you did.” Jeremy Simpson said “It’s hard to turn away requests for charity events but we selected this armed forces event as our charitable partner for 2013 and as such we were delighted to be able to provide assistance.”

Our EFS team worked on 7 stands and installed over 600m² of Temp-A-Path® in both the standard green and light grey shades –for Merlo, Ladybird Cranes and BJ cranes to name a few. A Carpet for all Seasons – even the English Summer!

During the year we are asked for many different outdoor solutions and most recently this has included a carpet. The Royal Borough of Kensington organises a summer season of operas within Holland Park. Opera Holland Park is a summer Opera Company which produces an annual season of opera performances staged under a temporary canopy in Kensington’s Holland Park. This year’s events feature 5 operas including Puccini’s famous Madame Butterfly as well as a classic film season from The Luna Cinema Company. Each of these summer events attract several thousand visitors to the grandstand and general seating areas. EFS were asked to provide and install a range of carpets for the grandstands, stairs and outdoor decking areas. Recognising the traits of a typical English summer we were able to supply and fit carpets for both the indoor and outdoor areas. We selected our Podium flat velour carpet for over 1,200m² of indoor grandstands, stairways and associated areas. For the tricky part of the outdoor decking area we supplied and laid over 600m² of EFS Club stud backed carpet , This specifically designed product has a built in stud design which allows rainwater to simply drain away providing a constant and comfortable safe flooring. As a new project for EPS, we were delighted to provide assistance and make use of some of our special carpets. With recent English Summers we know that our Club carpet will look good no matter whatever the weather!

EFS Carpets – Creating Extra Income for Leicestershire County Cricket Club

EFS Carpets – Creating Extra Income for Leicestershire County Cricket Club

Posted: Sat, 01 Jun 2013 14:04

Alongside every sporting success at the ground, it’s vital to maximise your revenues from every possible on-site opportunity. Leicestershire County Cricket (LCC) recognised this and were keen to add turnover from their already busy match day revenues, asking EFS for assistance. Given the noise restrictions imposed by the City council (marquees on the famous Grace Road ground were out of the question) but as a central location within the city with ample parking and entertainment facilities, LCC were keen to take advantage of this ideal venue for the corporate market. The indoor cricket school provided the ideal solution but due to its importance for the club as a practice area, the specialist cricket flooring needed total protection. EFS recommended Club Gel backed carpet in a bespoke colour to both protect the training surface whilst also providing a warm comfortable surface for the new corporate clients. Given the high footfall, table and chair legs along with stiletto heels, EFS Club Gel Backed carpet protected the indoor flooring and took less than 2 hours to roll out and complete the dramatic transformation. The Club Gel Carpet is now stored away at Leicestershire and ready to roll out for the next big event at Grace Road. Jeremy Simpson – EFS Business Development Manager commented, “Every year our clients ask us how they can make better use of their facilities without damaging their existing flooring”. “Our range of Club carpets provide the perfect solution and have allowed schools, sports halls and sports clubs to make better use of their space and increase their revenues.”

Ayrton Senna Tribute Floored By EFS At Donington Historic Festival

Ayrton Senna Tribute Floored By EFS At Donington Historic Festival

Posted: Sat, 11 May 2013 11:14

Working on behalf of Gl Events Owen Brown at Donington Historic Festival (May 3rd-5th) Event Flooring Solutions floored Structures with their Temp-A-Path Flooring to house 3 of Ayrton Senna’s car’s along with a selection of memorabilia in the Paddock for on-track demonstrations of cars which played a significant role in the career of the late triple World Champion. * From F3 to F1...

In 1982 Ayrton Senna won the British and European F2000 Championships, and was rewarded with a drive in the season-end F3 race in a Ralt RT3. He famously won the race, and that very RT3 was demonstrated on the track at the Donington Historic Festival. During his F3 Championship-winning season in 1983, Senna enjoyed his first-ever drive in an F1 car, testing Keke Rosberg’s Monaco GP-winning Williams-Cosworth FW08C at Donington Park. That very same FW08C was a star feature of the Donington Collection, and this important machine came out of the museum specially for the Festival. As a result of his impressive F1 tests in 1983, Senna moved into Grand Prix racing full-time in 1984, and his first Formula One race car - the famous 1984 Toleman TG-184-02 Hart turbo - was also displayed at the Festival. This is the car that Senna drove to a spectacular second place in the 1984 Monaco GP, overtaking Alain Prost for the lead but being robbed of his first Grand Prix win when heavy rain stopped the race the following lap. Also on display was the 1986 JPS Lotus Renault Turbo in which Senna won the US GP at Detroit. The young Brazilian started the race in pole position, but tyre problems saw him initially fall back to eighth place, with the race lead changing hands six times between five drivers before – equipped with fresh tyres – Senna carved his way through the field to take victory.

For Event Flooring Solutions (EFS) the highest point of 2012 was being asked to provide product for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Working for Nussli, EFS were asked to manufacture, install and up-lift portable flooring for use at Boxhill in Surrey as a part of the Men’s Cycling Road Race. EPS Temp-A-Path  was selected as the most practical and cost effective product and by removing the EFS logo from the tool they were able to quickly produce new product to the Olympic non branded specifications. As this was a new production run EFS were also able to change the colour to light grey in order to reduce the expansion of the tiles in direct sunlight. Working to very tight deadlines bespoke Temp-A-Path  was manufactured by EFS in the UK and installed by EFS staff at a number of locations around the Boxhill site. The product was used for disability access in and around tented areas and portable toilets, given the previous weeks’ constant rain it provided a safe and secure solution for this event. Jeremy Simpson, Business Development Business Development Manager commented “It was fantastic for EFS as a newly formed company to have supplied this prestigious contract with our own product in our first year of trading.” He added “sadly there were no GB Gold’s at this event – but as a company we certainly felt like real winners.”

Postpone or Cancel? Not an option for your Daughter’s Wedding!

Postpone or Cancel? Not an option for your Daughter’s Wedding!

Posted: Sun, 10 Feb 2013 12:21

Late December’s wet weather caused many high profile events to be cancelled but not for a special wedding in Leicestershire. Event Flooring Solutions (EFS) were tasked to ensure that a wonderful wedding and reception took place no matter whatever the weather. Working with GL Events EFS quickly visited the sited for a survey to assess the topography and overall logistics involved – the brief was simple “This wedding has to take place – failure is not an option!” The on site survey showed that access was critical, the field was located along a narrow country drive which meant un-loading from normal transport onto smaller vehicles and by hand. EFS organised lighter vehicles and forklifts to provide the ideal access to the site co-ordinated by EFS staff. Initially the key criteria was to provide access across the field for the support staff of GL Events to unload the marquee structure and support facilities. Additionally vehicular access was essential for the suppliers and sub contractors to construct and service the wedding marquee, finally given the wet weather access and parking for the guests was requested. For this essential work EFS staff installed 1100m² of their Hex Road product - light, flexible and able to allow for heavy loads, this was ideal for both site access and protection of the ground beneath, also allowing an ideal work platform for support staff and vehicle standing. Hex Road was also used around the site as access to on site parking, given the flexibility of Hex Road EFS were able to install additional spurs off the main road way to provide and maximise the number of parking spaces available. As the continued heavy rain fell and with several last minute urgent phone calls, it quickly became apparent that additional protection was required for the field in which the cars were parked. Given that this was the “Friday before Christmas” and new stock was required on site, EFS managed to arrange for several small vehicles to collect and deliver new product direct to the site. EFS staff were contacted and arrived on site in time to install 700m² of their Temp-A-Road product to in-fill and provide a firm parking area within the road spurs. As a final touch, EFS arranged for both the Hex Road and Temp-A-Road to be cleaned using mechanical sweepers and individual jet washing from mobile bowsers with on-site staff. This beautiful event took place with no hitches from the weather and thanks to EFS they were able to “Spare the bride’s blushes”!

Once again we were asked to provide and install temporary walkways and hard standing areas for the annual Lincoln Christmas market. Having designed the layout for the market several years ago, we are always delighted to be asked to undertake this exciting festive project. As a national heritage site it is critical that due care, attention and diligence is paid to the surrounding areas both within the Castle grounds and also the neighbouring gardens. For this year’s annual medieval Christmas market we were asked by Dakin Events to provide protective flooring for both inside and outside of the Castle keep. Our products offered protection for the grounds and lawns whilst also providing safe walkways throughout the site. For the build up of the marquees and general access areas we supplied and installed 500m² of Hex Road – this was largely outside of the Castle Keep. Whilst within the Castle walls, for the stallholders, entertainers and visitors, we supplied and installed 1,400m² of our Temp-A-Path® product. The annual Medieval Christmas Fayre in Ludlow is described as the best medieval show in the land with over 100 stalls selling seasonal gifts with a distinct medieval flavour. This year’s weekend event attracted more music, minstrels, merriment and mirth than ever before and was certainly a great treat for all of the family, set within the glorious grounds of the medieval Ludlow Castle.
